Why must all major awards shows suck so badly?

I'm normally inclined to view the critical and popular success of the relentlessly mediocre Everybody Loves Raymond as further evidence of the decline of civilization, but when the shmuck who plays Raymond's brother beats out the incomparable Jeremy Piven of Entourage (Ari Gold) for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy, and the show itself beats Arrested Development for Best Comedy Series, heads must roll.

What kind of fuckwit votes like that? Seriously, how could anyone watch the shows involved here and vote like that?

Sentimentality - it was the final season, the voters wanted one final round of ass kissing for a "tv classic."

It's an okay show, but it should never beat Arrested Development for anything. To me, the most disgusting win was Doris Roberts AGAIN, beating out LUCILLE FUCKING BLUTH!

They smear soap on it and they act like they're doing you a favor!

You know who needs love? Jeffrey fucking Tambor. Most actors would be lucky to find themselves involved in either Max Headroom, The Larry Sanders Show, or Arrested Development, and he's been instrumental to all three. He's the man.

Oh, and re: sentimentality and ELR:

The only reason the show has been successful in the first place is for sentimental reasons. It's a completely retro generic half-hour family sitcom with laugh track, which happened to come along at a time when that particular format was on the decline, and so people latched onto it because they didn't want to admit that the format was dead for good reason.

Even without having watched Arrested Development, I'd still vote for it over ELR. That show radiates unfunniness.
